Some of our new Friends

Fossil Float '99 was something we looked forward to since missing the fall of '98 trip. It included an orientation and fossil hunting seminar the evening before, and that's where we met some great people. We recognized Dr. Gary Parker right away, we've seen him on Origins and other Creation shows on SkyAngel. After an introduction by Dr. Tom DeRosa, Dr. Gary gave an informative lecture on creation science and fossils. He then introduced his wife, Dr. Mary Parker, and she geared things towards the kids, since there were a lot, but it was still fun for us adults. Dr. Gary wrapped up the fossil lecture and introduced the guides and fossil hunters that would be on our trip, and gave us safety and collecting advice. After the presentations, the guides and Parkers were still around and answering questions. This is were we had a chance to get to know the Parkers, and found out they are wonderful people.

We went on the next 2 Fossil Floats also. On the last one we took our 6 year old son, he really enjoyed himself and was well behaved, since he is VERY ACTIVE! It seems everytime he found something, he was running for 'Dr. Parker, Dr. Parker!'. We are so thankful that the Parkers enjoyed him and his questions and discoveries. On the last trip someone found one of those sharkteeth that covers your hand, not just your palm, your whole hand! I've been diving off Venice beach, and on 3 Fossil Floats, and haven't found one larger than 4 inches yet.

We thought about going on the Spring 2000 float, but time got away from us, and we decided to stay home instead of walk our canoes down river. There was quiet a drought in Florida again this year, soil moisture conditions were declared 'desert like', and the Peace River was way low. We did go on our own a few times, no canoes, just to the 2 places that are easily driven to. Nancy and I have collected alot more fossils that she will be painting on, I will be looking into getting the stuff to make Pen/Pencil Holders too. For a look, don't forget to go to the Fossil Showcases.
