What is SkyAngel?

The SkyAngel idea has actually been around for a long time, but finally became reality in the mid 90's. I heard about it, and found out they just moved into new headquarters only 65 miles from our house. Nancy and I decided to give them a visit, to see if it looked like a viable alternative to cable. When we got there, it smelled like new paint and carpet and not all the boxes were unpacked yet, but we were given a very friendly tour. They only had one channel at the time - Angel One, but it had a lot of the programming we were looking for, and the promise of more channels to come. Another item that got our interest was the 2 channels of home schooling they were planning on carrying. On the way home we decided we were going to make the jump to buy the equipment and 'Lifetime' subscription, in 10 easy installments. We were so excited about it, we started telling our friends at church, and one couple even got their dish and subscription before we did! Since then we have been directly involved or instrumental in seven other families and two churches getting SkyAngel.

The 18" dish is pretty easy to install, I did my own, and helped install 5 others (getting the wire into the house is the most difficult part). Right now SkyAngel is leasing space off the Dish Network satellite parked in geo-synchronous orbit over the Caribbean (at the height of 22,300 miles, it orbits the earth as fast as the earth spins, so it's 'parked' in the same spot!). But as we speak, we are building our own satellite, and our own uplink complex. Here is some more information on the 16 radio and 16 television 24 hour stations that are available.

Click here for Website SkyAngel One, SkyAngel Two and KTV (Kid's Television) originate from Naples and SkyAngel. They take more than 100 ministries, teaching, preaching, music, mission outreach and creation science. Angel Two adds special events programming and KTV is for younger kids in the morning and geared towards teens in the evening.

There are several Family friendly stations, they carry old sitcoms and B&W movies, nature shows and sports are carried on FamilyNet, Golden Eagle, and Safe TV. There's Christian SuperStations from across the nation on the satellite. Cornerstone, Daystar, Inspirational Network, and World Harvest TV. 3ABN is Seventh Day Adventist and Familyland is Catholic. Then there's La Familia (Spanish) and The Dream Network geared towards African-Americans. There are three Christian Music Video stations, Praise TV for Contemporary/Young Adult, there's a 24 hour a day Gospel station and one devoted to Worship - Quiet music, beautiful scenery, and scriptures.

There are 2 subscription channels that can be used to help home school children. Bob Jones University offers the books and testing and has entertaining, interesting class sessions for 1st grade through high school.

I'll just list the Radio Stations, of course they have CD quality sound (it's digital!). Air 1, American Family, Bible Broadcasting, Calvary, Children's Sonshine, Family Radio, Living Way, Moody, Praise/USA Radio, Pulse, Radio Nueva Vida, Radio U, Sacred Favorites, Solid Gospel, WAY-FM and WMUU-BJU. For more information just go to the SkyAngel website.

We'll be glad to send you some more info and a subscription form if you're interested, just send us an email
